Open Question: why do parents get upset when their kids change?
I changed last year and my dad doesn’t like it.I asked my dad can i start going to the movie theaters alone and he said no.Then i asked how about you see and different movie and i see a different movie but still in the same cinema.He still said no.I just don’t get it.I told him im sick of my always going with him.Im 13 almost 14 and he treats me like a baby.And him being a jehovah witness just restricts me from basically anything he finds “devil influenced”.I love dark poetry and metal music and he and my sister keeps thinking its something wrong with me.I can’t go see what the other religions are like.You know, like get to know what the others are about.He says i gotta wait untill im 18 for most things i want to do.I cant even dress the way i want.I dont dress provocatively, i just like chains, band tee shirts and stuff like that.And my grandmother is the same as him she says she misses the old me.The old me was unconfident, pushover, and i trusted everyone.Now im complete opposite and they are not happy.A few years ago my dad just made me feel like he didn’t care about me.He stopped asking me how i am and just spending time with me.Hes still like that and doesn’t realize it.It hurts really bad.I believe he has narcissistic personality disorder.The moment when someone judges his religion or his parenting or anything about him he gets easily offended and hurt.Which led him thinking i needed a therapist.I seen one for 6 months because of him.It is sometimes so hard dealing with his personality.And hes my only parent.Why do parents get upset when their kids change?
